You Get-sy is a project I started to share the things I like — a way to connect good people to good people and share the love. It has also evolved into general recommendations of things that have made my life sunnier and full these days. Because this project is new and very much a work in progress, please feel free to leave a comment letting me know what you liked, what you’d love more of, what you recommend, or just a bit about yourself.

Sunday Scaries’ Summer Uniform
In a start of summer newsletter, I put together some outfits that I named my summer uniforms. True to form, I’ve worn every single one of those pieces many times over this summer. Today is a special treat because I get to highlight my personal style icon, the guy behind Sunday Scaries, the person I look to for all fashion and lifestyle choices, none other than my brother, Will deFries. A large majority of y’all reading this have found You Get-sy by way of Will (if you don’t follow him, you can find his info at the bottom of this letter), and I hope you enjoy reading about the official summer uniform workhorses of Sunday Scaries.
Cadet Shorts — I got two pairs last summer and have really fallen in love with them since. They have great colors that fit my closet, the terry cloth waistband means they're always comfortable, and I enjoy the short length. These have become a staple during hot days playing with the kids, but I'll also wear them for casual rounds of golf if the course isn't too stuffy. (Link)
Rowan Tees — I stumbled upon these tees while on vacation in Rancho Santa Fe, and I couldn't stop thinking about them after feeling them in the store. I ended up buying a couple and they're always first off the stack of laundry. They also have a fatherhood message intertwined with the brand's inspiration, and that's obviously top-of-mind for me lately. (Link)
Nantucket Summer '88 Dead Hat — I don't wear hats all that often but I always like to decide on one hat to be The Hat for the summer. This year's is a Grateful Dead-inspired Nantucket '88 hat by Mike Gracie. It's embroidered on an Adams dad cap (my favorite brand) and the washed out red feels very nostalgic. (Link)
AYR Cool Wool Shirt — This is probably the most practical and impressive button down shirt I've ever worn. I love the green color, it's incredibly light and breathable despite the wool, it doesn't wrinkle in a suitcase, and it's (shockingly) machine washable. While you are paying a premium, I've brought this shirt on vacation with me and worn it 3+ times with it looking new and smelling fine. I truly love it. (Link)
Huckberry x Merrell Trail Shoe — I received these as a gift from Huckberry and haven't really worn any sneakers since. They've got incredible support, I love the color scheme, and all signs point to them being incredibly durable — one listener told me they got him through a Glaswegian winter, and that's good enough for me. 90s Patagonia Stand-Up Shorts — While these haven't been my favorite shorts because of their snug fit in the waist, they've been comfortable enough to find themselves being worn all over town. I'd also be lying if I said I didn't feel good about myself for purchasing used shorts on eBay rather than just going back to the J.Crew well time and time again. (editor’s note: I recommend looking for this on second hand sites like eBay, Gem, Poshmark, etc rather than trying to buy new)
Every Other Thursday Knit Polo — "Knit" and "Texas Summer" aren't exactly a match made in heaven but this is light enough that I haven't had any issues yet. I would recommend sizing up since it's a fairly trim fit, but it's worked in more situations this summer than I care to admit. (Link)
A hot summer combined with two kids has truly made me trade in what I'd normally wear all summer for things that are, simply put, practical and comfortable. You never want to risk ruining anything through sweat or spit-up, so everything I've been wearing this summer has largely been machine-washable. While I'm not exactly reaching high-fashion levels with my outfits, I'm in my Dad-On-Vaca Era at all times. And that's fine by me.
