Welcome! I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. You Get-sy is a project I started to share the things I like — a way to connect good people to good people and share the love. It has also evolved into general recommendations of things that have made my life sunnier and full these days. Because this project is new and very much a work in progress, it is so helpful if you subscribe (thanks to those of you who have!), share with friends you think might enjoy, and please feel free to leave a comment letting me know what you liked, what you’d love more of, or just a bit about yourself.
This winter in Montana was particularly bleak (I know, I am a broken record — but spring is coming!!). Read: very little snow (although, it is falling this morning- TOO LITTLE TOO LATE, WINTER!) and grey dismal days. In the past few weeks I made an effort to both find a more wintery-winter and find a sunnier and warmer spring. Success! March’s recommendation is to get some late winter/early spring travel on the books. Easy to do when your job has a built in spring break (perks of being a teacher), but also so necessary to combat the winter blues by having something to look forward to, plan, and enjoy.
On a personal note, I haven’t had a lot of inspiration to write lately. Travel definitely helped in this realm, but here’s where you come in: I am super curious what you might be interested in hearing more about in this space. Please feel free to leave questions, comments, or whatever you’d like to share in the comment section below. Do you have a specific thing you’re looking for a recommendation on? Is there something you’d like to see more of in this space? Please let me know! Finally, I’ve been in somewhat of a reading rut. Please let me know below if you have a favorite book I should dive into.
Alright, let’s get to it.
[You Get-sy] Rec of the Week
Late Winter/Early Spring Travel
I completely understand that not everyone reading this spent their winter in a grey, cold, snowless, valley like I did. Regardless, I think everyone can benefit from planning and taking a trip in late February/early March. In my case, I planned two!
Alaska
When it became apparent that our winter wasn’t going to be the snowy wonderland I hope for year after year, I reached out to an old childhood summer camp friend who lives in Alaska and began scheming a trip to visit her to get my fill of cold, snow, and adventure. It was a quick trip, but it was filled with cold temps and incredible experiences. The few photos below only show a slice of the fun. It was certainly a trip of a lifetime, and I can’t wait to get back to Alaska as soon as I can.
Utah
Our family decided to road trip to Utah this year for spring break instead of flying anywhere, and while I can’t say that driving 2,000 miles with a toddler was the best idea I’ve ever had, it also certainly wasn’t the worst. Yes, we spent many long hours in the car driving to and from and solidifying the fact that Laurie Berkner (IYKYK) will hold the top spot on our Spotify Wrapped, but we also got to visit great friends, hike in beautiful canyons and along rivers, and eat incredible food. Toss some glamping into the mix and we’re all coming back a bit more sandy than we were when we left and certainly sun-kissed and happy to have gotten out of town.
Two things of note that aren’t captured in these photos:
Our desert oasis, complete with pool & hot tub, food truck, drive in movie theater, and outdoor showers.
One of the best meals I’ve had in my life. I will be dreaming about the squash salad and enchiladas for years to come. In the future, I think it’d be great to stay at the lodge on the same site.
Coveting
Spring is beginning to burst forth and here are a few links to things I’ve been coveting as the changes in weather continue:
Sonderhaus Trousers - Great shape & great colors- love the knee patches on the navy.
Hoping to brighten our small bathroom with this springy shower curtain.
My brother, Sunday Scaries, just launched a leisure short that looks perfect for hot summer days and nights.
I’m going all in on gravel biking this spring, and looking for some updates to my cycling wardrobe, particularly from this cool brand.
A perfect spring cardigan for chilly mornings and evenings.
The color of these glasses remind me of spring flowers.
Until next time, thanks for reading! xo
