This past weekend I headed, for the first time, to the great state of Rhode Island to visit a dear friend (hey, Caroline!) and her family. We had a string of beautiful days, allowing us to swim in the ocean and hang at the beach, go apple picking with a pack of kindergarteners, and walk to the smoothie shop for delicious smoothie and vegan baked goods. Pre-beach afternoon, Caroline and I got to visit the Lindquist Object headquarters for their annual ‘Long Days, Early Moons’ fall equinox market. I love my two Lindquist bags, the Pal and the Faba (coveting a Savoie), and it was fun to see where the magic is made. I picked up a couple of Misha & Puff sweaters for my daughter and gazed at the other cool makers who were there as well. The food provided by Frank & Laurie's was also incredible. The Providence and greater East Coast arts scene is full of talented folks creating beautiful and functional wares, and it was fun to be amongst them all.
My daughter, who is 3, is learning about “bucket fillers” at school right now. Bucket fillers in her preschool world are people who are kind and helpful, and I’d extend this term to experiences that fill you up— whether with great conversation, time outside, or catching up with friends and family. This trip was a bucket filler in all the ways, and I already miss Caroline’s beautiful home, sweet family, and fun friends.
While I was gone, fall really settled into Missoula. We had a couple of hard frosts before I returned, so my dahlias are done for the season. Last year I was harvesting blooms well into October, but you never know what the weather will deal you from year to year. They were so stunning while they lasted! The trees are beginning to turn, the larch trees (deciduous conifers whose needles turn golden in the fall and shed from the branch) will slowly start peeking out from their summer camouflage, and our beloved CSA share from our neighborhood farm came to an end this week as well. Mornings are frostier, and we’re still getting glorious blue sky days even as daylight wanes. We’ve got some fall fun on the docket the next few weeks— a fall gathering at an old homestead in the hills of Missoula, apple picking, pumpkin picking and carving, bike rides, and starting to look towards and prepare for what will hopefully be a snowy winter.
Due to being out of town, I haven’t had a lot of extra time to write, so today is short and sweet. Although, I did teach myself how to make a digital collage (I know, I know). I created a mood board of the vibes I’m embracing and what I’m loving and coveting for fall. I’ll link to it all below!
I did my best to go clockwise from the top left— enjoy perusing!! Through thoughtful consideration and conversation, this week I decided to try including a few affiliate links. The affiliate links are only included when the product I’m looking at has an affiliate link available- I didn’t include things in this list just to include an affiliate link. I feel a bit conflicted about affiliate links, because I want my recommendations to be genuine (and they are!). It also takes me a considerable amount of time to link to everything that I write about every week, and my newsletter is still free to read— there is no paywall or content only for paid subscribers. I’m curious if including occasional affiliate links will help me to feel compensated in some way for my time and labor. By purchasing through these links, you’re helping to support the work I’m doing with this newsletter. Totally possible that I’ll continue to use some affiliate links and totally possible I won’t! What are your thoughts? Those of you who write newsletters, what do you do?
A quick update to one of my recommendations in last week’s letter, LMNT is a great US based company making excellent salty electrolyte drinks and powders. They are tasty and great after a sweaty workout or when you just need a boost. They have a program where you can nominate people doing great things in their community (like teachers and first responders). I nominated a good friend who is a great teacher, and she received a great gift pack from them in return. In a fun turn of events, they also sent me a gift pack just for nominating! I love these drinks and highly recommend them. Thanks for being such a thoughtful and giving company, LMNT!
I sincerely always appreciate the time you take from your day to read what I have to say. I’m always looking to include more of what YOU want, so please don’t hesitate to comment below on what you’d like to see more of in this space!
Until next time, thanks for reading! xo
How did you make the collage?I can’t seem to find anything I like.
Love the idea of bucket fillers!
